Women on Health and Economic Empowerment Arusha (WOHEEA) is a registered non-governmental organization based in Arusha, Tanzania. We work at the grassroots level to improve women's health, nutrition, and economic self-reliance.
To empower women, especially in rural Tanzania, by tackling systemic barriers in economic development, health, WASH, and social rights through focused interventions, capacity building, advocacy, and partnerships that reflect the real-life experiences of women in communities.
A society where women and girls are self-reliant, financially stable, and actively contributing to socio-economic development — with access to the resources needed to lead a healthy, independent, and dignified life.
Our work is concentrated around Arusha City and nearby districts in northern Tanzania, with active programmes in Moivo & Kiutu wards, the Meru District, and primary schools across the region.
Where partnerships and funding allow, we extend into adjacent regions to scale proven models.
Women in vulnerable situations: facing poverty, single mothers, or those affected by health issues.
Young women and girls: ages 10–18 in upper primary and secondary school, building the next generation of self-reliant women.
Communities and families: men, children, and elders also benefit from health education and community workshops.
WOHEEA is led by a team of Tanzanian professionals passionate about women's development — including project officers, trainers, and community organizers with deep expertise in health education and business skills.
